New Delhi: Major National Campaign Targets 3.5 Crore Women Under “Breast Cancer Free 2030” Vision
In a significant step towards strengthening the fight against breast cancer, India Turns Pink (ITP) and Pink Ribbon International have joined hands to expand breast health awareness, early detection, screening, prevention, research and support services across India.
The collaboration was formally launched at the “Pink Ribbon Foundation & India Turns Pink Global Launch” held at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, bringing together prominent representatives from the diplomatic, medical, social and public-service sectors.
India Turns Pink, which has been working since 2013 with its powerful message “Early Detection Saves Lives,” has conducted breast cancer awareness and free screening initiatives through CSR partnerships and community programmes. Pink Ribbon International has been supporting breast cancer awareness, prevention, research and early-detection initiatives across 96 countries.
Pink Ribbon Foundation India to Drive National Movement
As part of the collaboration, Pink Ribbon Foundation India is proposed to be established as a national platform to strengthen breast cancer prevention and early-detection efforts. The initiative will work towards the ambitious vision of “BREAST CANCER FREE 2030”, with a focus on ensuring that women across India have greater access to breast health information, awareness and screening.
The programme was attended by Mr. Nico Schiettekatte, Counsellor for Health, Welfare & Sport, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in India. Dr. Jyothshna Tirunagari, National Spokesperson, TDP and President of Samskara Foundation, attended the programme as Chief Guest.
The distinguished Guests of Honour included AVM Manoj Kumar Mehra, Vishisht Seva Medal, PhD (Retd.); Dr. Rakhi Mehra, Professor and HOD, Ishan Ayurvedic Medical College and Research Centre, Noida; and Mrs. Mallika Thangeshwaran, former Advisory Panel Member, New Delhi Region, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
Nationwide Campaigns to Create Awareness
The initiative is being led by Mr. P. A. Ananda Kumar, Founder and President, India Turns Pink, along with IT Secretary Mr. Annamalai Saravanan and Vice President Mr. Surya. Representing Pink Ribbon International were Mr. Walter, Founder and Director, and Ms. Fionnuala Shannon, Director of Global Operations.
A series of nationwide programmes are planned under the collaboration, including Women First Programme, Airports Turn Pink India, Colleges Turn Pink India, K2K National Awareness Campaign, Corporate Turns Pink, Scientific Research Fund and AI Health Innovation Hub.
According to the organizers, the movement aims to reach 3.5 crore women across India, with a special focus on creating awareness among young women about breast health and the importance of early detection.
The organizers appealed to women, families, educational institutions, corporates, healthcare professionals and civil society organizations to become part of the campaign and help transform breast cancer awareness into a nationwide movement.
Emphasizing the core philosophy of the initiative, the organizers said:
