Civil Engineer Mohammad Saqib, founder of AAA Constructions, has been involved in residential, commercial and civil construction projects across Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region, where challenging terrain often requires careful planning and specialised construction practices.
Building construction in the hill areas of Uttarakhand involves several factors that are different from conventional construction on level ground. Steep slopes, varying soil conditions, limited working space, difficult site access and changing weather conditions can influence the execution of a project from its initial stage.
According to Saqib, proper planning before starting construction is essential, particularly when working on sloping sites. Foundation conditions, drainage, slope stability, material transportation and the availability of working space need to be considered according to the requirements of each site.
Structural quality also depends significantly on execution. Correct reinforcement placement, proper alignment, concrete quality, adequate compaction and curing are among the key aspects that require attention during construction.
“Quality construction is not only about selecting good materials. Proper execution, supervision and adherence to engineering practices at every stage are equally important,” Saqib said.
Retaining walls and other slope-support structures are also commonly required in hilly construction. Saqib highlights the importance of proper drainage and water management around such structures, as uncontrolled water accumulation can affect their performance.
He has worked across locations including Bhimtal, Nainital, Nainital, Dhanachuli, Pahadpani, Sheetla, Ramgarh and surrounding areas. Originally from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, Saqib has built his professional career in Uttarakhand’s mountainous regions.
Alongside his construction work, he shares civil engineering and construction-related information through social media, covering site execution, construction techniques, material practices, safety and basic engineering concepts.
His experience reflects the importance of combining engineering planning, quality execution and site-specific construction methods for safer and more durable building projects in Uttarakhand’s challenging terrain.
