Sufia Tanweer urges Gen Z to use social media responsibly ahead of ‘Oye Chill Maar’ release

Mumbai, September 23: Actress Sufia Tanweer, who plays an important role in the upcoming Hindi social psychological thriller ‘Oye Chill Maar’, is excited about the film’s theatrical release on September 25. The actress plays a social media influencer who is deeply obsessed with views, followers and online validation.

Talking about her character, Sufia said, “My character is a social media influencer who is extremely obsessed with views, followers and the attention she receives online. As the story progresses, we see how excessive exposure to the digital world and constant interaction with an online audience begins to affect her life. It was an interesting and challenging character, and I have given it my best.”

Sufia believes that while social media has opened up several opportunities for youngsters, excessive dependence on digital platforms can also impact their privacy and personal lives.

“Social media has both pros and cons. It has given youngsters tremendous opportunities and is a great platform for information, knowledge, entertainment and networking. But at the same time, we have become overexposed to each other’s lives. 

There is a constant pressure to share, post and seek validation,” she said.
Urging youngsters and Gen Z to maintain a healthy balance between their online and real lives, the actress added, “My request to youngsters is not to let social media become your life. Use it for information, learning, entertainment and productive purposes, but don't become obsessed with it. You don't need to post everything and anything about your life. Oversharing can affect your privacy, relationships and even your family and cultural values.”

Sufia hopes ‘Oye Chill Maar’ will encourage audiences to think about the way social media influences their lives.

“Social media is a tool, not your entire life. We need to be conscious about what we put online and how much of our personal lives we expose to the world. I am extremely excited about the release and hope audiences enjoy the film and my character. I would urge everyone to watch ‘Oye Chill Maar’ in theatres on September 25,” she said.

Directed and edited by Nitin M. Rokade and produced by Tulshiram Deorukhkar, the film explores social media obsession, online validation, relationships and emotional consequences of excessive digital exposure.

Sufia, meanwhile, has upcoming South Indian projects in the pipeline and is also looking forward to exploring bigger opportunities in Bollywood.
